Ian's GF Chicken Cutlettes

Product Brand: Ian's
Product Name: Chicken Cutlettes
Product Cost: $5.99
Product Website: Ian's

Let me start of by saying the #1 food I have missed since being diagnosed Celiac are chicken fingers! I *LOVE* chicken fingers.

So - these were OK! They weren't great. They lack the spices I love in chicken fingers and I found the batter a bit grainy and sandy but they were good and were perfect for fending off the chicken finger/nugget cravings.

I microwaved them and next time I will bake them in the oven. They may taste a bit better in the oven than microwaved.

NOW! The box is extremely small and I find them quite expensive for the amount you get. I made 6 of them and they are about the size of a chicken ball and that was half of the container. However, I think they are satisfying enough when you just can't resist and great for a treat once and a while!

Sorry!

Other than the corn noodles (no picture still) I don't have anything to review. I have a lot of new things but I just haven't tasted any of it yet *LOL* I have been eating spaghetti and meatballs, asparagus, toast etc for the last few days.

Tomorrow I will try one of my new things - oh and MIL (mother-in-law remember) bought me some Bob's RedMill's Brownie Mix - so I'll let you know how that is too.

El Peto Italian Bread & Shikar Green Onion and Garlic Poppa Dums

Today was another grocery shopping day! I know I was supposed to review the corn spaghetti but I forgot to take its picture. I have some other products to review too so I'll push the corn spaghetti off to another time. ANYHOW!! Someone must have read my blog OR they caught wind that the Enjoy Life Snickerdoodle cookies ROCK!! Because today when I went to buy another box THEY WERE ALL GONE! They had plenty of the other kinds but it was just an open empty cavern where the Snickerdoodles were supposed to be! YIKES! Hopefully they restock soon!

Product Brand: El Peto
Product Name: Italian Bread
Product Cost: $5.99
Product Website: El Peto

WOW! This is the first bread I have ever eaten that tastes good! It tastes AWESOME toasted and made as garlic cheese bread! It's pretty good without being toasted but a little dry and grainy but definitely edible!

I have eaten this bread a lot this week. It was great with cream cheese, peanut butter, as garlic bread and with some whipped butter.

I mean - there isn't much else I could say other than it's excellent bread. Toasted it's a bit hard on the outside but the inside is soft and fluffy and the edge is crispy like Italian Bread crust.

Product Brand: Shikar
Product Name: Green Onion & Garlic Poppa Dums
Product Cost: $3.49

These are wonderful! I thoroughly enjoyed these. They are snack-sized versions of poppadums and they are very crispy like a potato chip. They are very good dipped in cheese, sour cream, salsa, etc - I didn't like them in the Mango Chutney but only because I found the Chutney too thick for dip. I did find other Mango Chutney that was more like salsa than a glaze like the Major Gray Mango Chutney I spoke about a few days ago - so maybe it would be better with that?

Anyhow, they smell a bit strange but they taste great. They are made out of lentil flour (I don't even really know what lentil is - a bean?) and you can get them in a few different flavours and there are corn ones as well. They are basically like a hard tortilla chip. I bet they would be great as nachos!

Well that's all I have for today. Sorry they kind of suck but I'm really exhausted and a little cranky (without any reason - it's just one of *those* days.) So tata and enjoy your snacks!

SLLLAACCCKKKER!

I know, I know - I SUCK! It's been a really hectic weekend (my dad is in the hospital and he isn't out of the woods but things are looking good) and the last few days haven't been easy either!

So I *PROMISE* tonight I will take pictures (the only thing stopping me from my reviews) and I will do a double post.

Check back for my review for El Peto Italian Bread and some new type of Corn spaghetti noodles!

Lots of love,

Melly McCeliac!

Glutino Pretzels

Product Brand: Glutino
Product Name: Sans Gluten Free Pretzels
Product Cost: $2.99 for small bag
Product Website: Glutino

I didn't like this product. I don't like this product for a variety of reasons but taste is definitely the most important reason. So I am quite taken aback by the ridiculous price of these pretzels. The "large" bag (regular size bag of pretzels in the chip/snack section) is $8.99!! There was no way in HELL I was buying that and then not liking it. I bought the small bag - and I mean TINY - it's about the size of the regular size NIBS package.

So it was poker night - my first time PLAYING poker so I sit down with my soda and pretzels (getting into the mood of poker) and I'm too chicken to taste them. So I make others taste first. Mother-in-law (MIL from now on) tastes and says “MMmm they are good!” Followed by “YUCK! These leave a gross taste in your mouth.” MIL's Sister tastes and says “They aren't bad...” and then “ew what's that gross taste?” Cousin tastes and says, “They taste like pretzels... Bleh, that is really disgusting!”

GRrrr - so I take one out. They look like little tiny pretzels and they appear to be REAL. They have the salt nicely coated on them. The bag smells like pretzels. So I eat it. They really do taste like pretzels but again that common thing that is with most gluten-free products, dry dusty feeling in your mouth. So I take a drink of pop HOPING that it will ease the Sahara Desert feeling in my mouth - no such luck. Now my taste buds are bathing in sandy-no-taste taste (you know what I mean right?) and there is this awful gross “KKKKKKTTTT” feeling in the back of my throat. It tastes like when you have eaten way too much garlic or something and the back of your throat has the nasty part of garlic sitting in it.

Anyhow - I think they are WAY over priced and they are not even good. Even if they tasted like pretzels I wouldn't recommend them because the price is outrageous.

Thai Kitchen Bangkok Curry Noodles & Sharwoods Major Gray Mango Chutney

I'm doing a double review because I didn't review on Wednesday.

Product Brand: Sharwoods
Product Name: Major Gray Mango Chutney
Product Cost: $4.99
Product Website: Sharwoods

First of all - their website is wonderful! I really recommend going there! I love it when companies put "gluten-free" on their products too! They also boast that it's free from artificial colours, flavouring and preservatives. It's so delicious that it couldn't be done with artificial flavouring!

I tried the Chutney with Pappa Dum Garlic and Chive chips and I found it way too thick and it had quite a tang to it. It wasn't horrible but I decided it just wasn't cut out for a dip without doing something to it. I haven't come up with that something to do to it yet though.

I decided I would cook with it. It combined with some rice noodles (which is the other review) and some chicken and it was really one of the most delicious and flavourful meals I have ever made and yet it was so simple. I can't wait to try it with other meals! I think it would be wonderful on baked chicken breasts in the oven!

Actually, it would be well suited as a chicken dip sauce for chicken balls or chicken fingers and of course you could make those on your own with GF crushed Corn Flakes and some cornstarch or other GF flour. YUM!

NEXT UP... We have...

Product Brand: Thai Kitchen
Product Name: Bangkok Curry
Product Cost: $1.49-$1.99 (depending on store)
Product Website: Thai Kitchen

These are wonderful. This is really a staple food in my diet. I eat these ALL the time and I love them. They taste very similar to Mr. Noodle *yay* and they have many different flavours. They have them in these types of packages and they have them in bowls (slightly more expensive.) The Spring Vegetable one is great too. Actually they are all great!

They are simple to make. You can boil water and add them to the water along with the flavour package, oil and seasoning and boil for another 5 minutes in the pot or you can boil water and pour the water into a bowl and let it sit. You can eat it as soup or drain the water and fry it in a pan. There are a million possibilities with these noodles! I really can't say ANYTHING bad about them because I love them so much. I recommend these because they are great!

Well that's ALL FOLKS! Stay away from those yummy heart-shaped pastry things at Walmart - you know what I am talking about!

Kingsmill Foods - Chocolate Chip Cookies

Product Brand: Kingsmill Foods
Product Name: Chocolate Chip Cookies
Product Cost: unknown
Product Website: Kingsmill Foods

Sorry about the reflection in the picture. The brand name is Kingsmill. Their website doesn't have much on it!

This cookie is the first gluten-free food I had tried (bought specifically for GF as many things we eat are naturally GF.)

It comes packaged like some of those fancy tea cookies. They looked like fancy tea cookies as well. They smelled delicious and first bite they were. Then the pure sugar (see on the box where it says low protein - I guess that is the way you say - high sugar) taste made me gag. I walked around all day with the taste and feeling as though I marinated my tongue in pure sugar. 2 days later I STILL felt that way. The sugary sweet grossness took up residence in the back of my throat and haunted me for days.

They are kind of grainy in texture and they melt in your mouth. I think it's a great snack for kids (if you don't mind them bouncing off the walls afterward) but as an adult they were way too sweet.

Oh, the mother-in-law that was mentioned in the previous post (with the chalk-crackers) tasted these as well. First bite and chew was "Mmmmm these are GOOD!" and then I heard "OH! These are GROSS!! YUCK YUCK YUCK!!" :) So yeah, I'm sure kids love these but adults - not so much.

Don’t expect too many references to her in the future – I think she got scared away by the two things she has tried because when offered today to try some Thai Noodles – Red Curry style that I didn’t particularly like (mostly because I’m not a fan of citrus taste in my foods) she refused. It was fun while it lasted!

I guess this one is really a - try it if you like sweet things but don't forget that "I told you so!"
